Hotel Mayfair Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Hotel Mayfair, you immediately sense this isn’t your typical Copenhagen chain hotel. The four-star property sits right in the heart of Vesterbro on Helgolandsgade, and honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering. There’s something refreshingly unpretentious about the place — it feels more like a well-appointed urban retreat than a stuffy business hotel. The lobby strikes that perfect balance between refined and welcoming, which I’ve found can be surprisingly hard to come by in this part of the city.
Location & Neighborhood
Vesterbro has completely transformed over the past decade, and staying here puts you right in the middle of Copenhagen’s most dynamic district. You’re literally steps away from the Meatpacking District (Kødbyen) with its incredible restaurants and nightlife, but also close enough to Central Station that getting around the city is effortless. What I love about this spot is how you can walk to Tivoli Gardens in about ten minutes, yet you’re also surrounded by local cafes and shops that most tourists never discover. The couples who rate this location so highly (apparently 9.3 out of 10) definitely know what they’re talking about — there’s something romantic about wandering these tree-lined streets in the evening.
The Rooms
The accommodations feel thoughtfully designed rather than just decorated. My room had this clean, Scandinavian aesthetic that never felt cold or sterile — you know how some Nordic hotels can go overboard with the minimalism. The beds are genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms are modern without being flashy. What struck me most was the attention to practical details: proper lighting for reading, enough outlets near the bed, and windows that actually open for fresh air. It’s the kind of place where you can tell someone actually thought about how people really use hotel rooms.
Breakfast Experience
The breakfast setup here is honestly impressive, especially if you have dietary restrictions. They’ve got everything covered — vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free options alongside more traditional American and Danish choices. It’s buffet-style, which normally makes me skeptical, but the quality is consistently good and the selection feels curated rather than just thrown together. I particularly appreciated that they rotate some items daily, so you’re not eating the exact same thing if you’re staying multiple nights. The coffee is proper strong, which any traveler will tell you isn’t always guaranteed at hotel breakfast buffets.
Why Guests Love It
What makes Hotel Mayfair work so well is how it manages to feel both central and peaceful. You’re in the thick of things when you want to be, but the hotel itself provides a calm base to return to after exploring the city. The staff genuinely seems to know the neighborhood — they’ll point you toward the good local spots rather than just the obvious tourist attractions. For the price point in Copenhagen (which, let’s be honest, can be brutal), you’re getting solid value in a location that keeps getting better. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re staying somewhere locals would actually recommend.
To book a hotel in Copenhagen during Christmas markets, visitors plan ahead to pair Tivoli lights with steaming gløgg on Strøget.

Reviews of Hotel Mayfair
Erin from United Kingdom – 14 April 2025 (7/10)
Great location close to the train station metro and walking around in the centre.
What could be improved: Walls and ceilings extremely thin. Also building work starting at 7am meant no relaxing mornings.Bañares from Lithuania – 11 March 2025 (9/10)
Everything was good. Location, building, staff, all
What could be improved: They didnt have kettle in the room and you have to pay for teas. First hotel i see that. Didnt like it.Kneller from United Kingdom – 23 February 2025 (8/10)
Great location, convenient to walk into the centre and lots of nice restaurants nearby. Bed was super comfy with very good bedding. Room was clean and staff very helpful. Breakfast was of a good quality.
What could be improved: Breakfast was expensive, with a lack of fried eggs. Room was small and could do with a kettle.Robert from United Kingdom – 17 February 2025 (9/10)
Clean, smart and well located for both city centre and meat packing district
What could be improved: Small bathroom and hotel is located opposite a strip clubKatrina from United Kingdom – 17 January 2025 (8/10)
The location of the properly was perfect. Right in the middle of the city. We loved the room, the bed was amazingly comfortable, the staff were really friendly and helpful. Good value for money as we got it in the booking.com discount.
What could be improved: The only thing missing really in the property was maybe a fridge in the room. But If you asked the front desk for anything they were more than happy to help. Not really a negative but just a point.Rosemarie from Ireland – 8 January 2025 (9/10)
The breakfast in this hotel is maybe the best hotel breakfast you will get, food cooked to perfection, really good quality ingredients compared to other hotels and a great selection of healthy options and choices, we were very impressed. Bathroom products and hairdryer good quality too. Room was extremely quiet and the hotel was very clean, warm and comfortable. Very good location and fairly priced.
What could be improved: The room we had was quiet small, maybe more hangers needed and the mattress was a little soft but these were only small considerations, overall we were very happy with our stay at Hotel Mayfair.Emily from United Kingdom – 2 January 2025 (9/10)
Very clean, breakfast was very inclusive and delicious! Upgraded to a suite which was fantastic, super comfy bed, spacious and very cosy. Luggage storage which is locked is great for those who have a very late flight! I would 100% stay here again.
