Copenhagen Admiral Hotel Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to the Copenhagen Admiral Hotel along Toldbodgade, you can’t miss the striking red-brick facade — it’s actually a converted 18th-century granary, and honestly, they’ve done something pretty spectacular with it. The building has this imposing maritime character that feels perfectly at home in Copenhagen’s historic harbor district. You know what struck me most? The way they’ve preserved those massive wooden beams throughout the interior while creating something that feels genuinely luxurious rather than just old.
Location & Neighborhood
This five-star property sits right where the action is — I mean, you’re literally steps from Nyhavn’s colorful townhouses and those canal-side cafés everyone photographs. The Amalienborg Palace is maybe a three-minute walk, and you can actually see the Opera House across the water from some rooms. What I love about this spot is that you’re in the thick of things without dealing with the tourist chaos of Strøget. The couples who stay here seem to get it — there’s something romantic about wandering these cobblestone streets at night, especially when you can duck back into your elegant retreat whenever you want.
The Room Experience
My room had those original timber beams running across the ceiling, which could feel gimmicky but somehow works beautifully here. The furnishings strike this nice balance between Danish design sensibilities and classic maritime touches — think rich fabrics and warm woods rather than stark minimalism. The bathrooms are properly luxurious (marble everywhere), and the beds are the kind you actually want to linger in. Some rooms overlook the harbor, others face the quiet courtyard, but honestly both have their charm depending on what you’re after.
Dining & Amenities
The breakfast buffet is — well, it’s Danish, so expect excellent bread, local cheeses, and fish preparations you won’t find at your typical hotel spread. They do it in this gorgeous dining room with soaring ceilings and maritime artifacts that somehow don’t feel like props. There’s parking available, which is actually a big deal in central Copenhagen where most hotels just shrug and point you toward expensive public garages. The restaurant serves modern Nordic cuisine that’s quite good, though you’ll want to book ahead since locals eat here too.
Why Guests Love It
Look, Copenhagen has plenty of boutique hotels trying to capture that Scandinavian design magic, but this place offers something different — genuine historical character wrapped in contemporary luxury. The staff actually knows the neighborhood and can point you toward the less obvious spots (there’s this tiny wine bar around the corner that most tourists never find). It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying somewhere significant rather than just another pretty hotel, and that maritime heritage gives it a personality that’s hard to replicate.

Reviews of Copenhagen Admiral Hotel
Rehia from New Zealand – 14 April 2025 (9/10)
The rooms were lovely – although the shower head only had one option over head, which is annoying when you don't want to wash your hair – the hand held spray was too low to use as an option
What could be improved: the shower
no facilities to make tea/coffee in the room
no free water
no facilities for coffee or tea in the lobbyGiulia from Italy – 13 April 2025 (9/10)
The structure is beautiful. The location is perfect to visit the main attraction just walking around. It is quite close to the metro line to the airport. The bed was super comfortable
What could be improved: For a 5 star hotel, I would have expected complementary water in the roomNicola from New Zealand – 12 April 2025 (7/10)
Super small room. Construction ongoing outside which wasn’t nice. Lovely view as hotel on water but not from our room (as we booked though).

Really enjoyed the location and the breakfast offered. Rooms very modern & clean.
The air conditioning was not very efficient in the room which meant having to sleep with the window open at night which was noisy and disturbed our sleep. Additionally, no complimentary water in the room upon arrival which is usually a standard offering across most hotels. I had also used the hotel guestbook prior to arrival to request something during our stay which although confirmed by the hotel, was never fulfilled.Graham from United Kingdom – 8 April 2025 (8/10)
good selection at breakfast. Staff very helpful
What could be improved: Restaurant food selectin, more internationalElizabeth from United States – 8 April 2025 (8/10)
The location here can't be beat, right on the edge of the water and in the heart of the city. We walked everywhere and this was a great location to be. The hotel is modern and stylish and our room was well appointed.
What could be improved: We didn't get a room overlooking the water, which was a miss as the hotel is not well suited to take advantage of the water location. The only lounge space is in the restaurant and it's not clear that you have to go through the first part of the restaurant to get to the back part of the restaurant & bar with the view over the water. They are currently in the midst of a large remodel, so both the front and back have wire fencing, but luckily it didn't affect our sleep. Because of the remodeling, you can't go out to the water from the hotel.Orit from Israel – 7 April 2025 (9/10)
Great hotel
Every day was a pleasure
But yes – was some early mornings with a bit noise from the reconstructions.Aysun from Turkey – 2 April 2025 (9/10)
Great location!!! Very clean, quiet but located in the most popular area at the same time, amazing
What could be improved: There were some missing materials for being a 5 star hotel; for example room phone was not working. There were no slippers, no face towels and no coffee/tea machine in the room. No one from the reception was informing about the hotel after check-in, I asked which floor our room was.Yiling from Singapore – 31 March 2025 (9/10)
It was still a lovely stay even though we did not get the water view room. Our room can start to hear some renovation sound if we leave the room in the late mornings or when we come back for a quick drop off in the afternoon.
The room was comfortable with wooden beams at the ceiling of the rooms. It’s meant to hold the structure and outside of the rooms, there are arches. Quite interesting and I quite like it.Dmitrii from France – 23 March 2025 (9/10)
Nice location, great facilities
What could be improved: I haven’t seen on booking.com that there is a security deposit of 1000 krones
