Copenhagen Island Hotel Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to the Copenhagen Island Hotel on Kalvebod Brygge, you immediately get why this place has such a strong reputation with travelers. It’s this sleek, modern building that sits right on the waterfront in Vesterbro — honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering. The four-star property has that understated Danish design thing going on, where everything looks effortlessly cool without trying too hard. You know what I mean? It’s not flashy, but there’s something really appealing about the clean lines and how it fits into the neighborhood.
The Waterfront Setting
Here’s the thing about staying in Vesterbro — you’re perfectly positioned between the grittier, more authentic side of Copenhagen and all the tourist spots you actually want to see. The hotel sits right on the harbor, and I mean right on it. You can walk along the water in either direction, and within fifteen minutes you’re either in the heart of the city or exploring some of the cooler, less touristy areas. Couples seem to really get this location (the 8.8 rating from couples tells the whole story), probably because there’s something romantic about those harbor views and the way the evening light hits the water.
The Room Experience
The rooms here are what you’d expect from a solid four-star in Denmark — clean, functional, and surprisingly spacious for a European city hotel. Each room has that minimalist Scandinavian aesthetic, but it’s warm minimalism, not cold and sterile. The beds are actually comfortable (not always a given), and the bathrooms are modern without being over-designed. What really impressed me was how quiet everything was, considering you’re right in the city. The soundproofing is clearly something they thought about.
Breakfast and Practical Matters
The breakfast setup is pretty solid — they do both continental and buffet options, which gives you flexibility depending on whether you’re rushing out to sightsee or taking your time. It’s not going to blow your mind, but it’s fresh and there’s enough variety to keep you happy for a week-long stay. One thing that’s genuinely helpful is the parking situation — they actually have it available at the hotel, which if you’ve ever tried to park in Copenhagen, you’ll know is basically a small miracle. Most places in the city center make you figure it out on your own.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t the fanciest hotel in Copenhagen, but it gets the fundamentals really right. The location is genuinely excellent — that 8.8 rating isn’t just marketing fluff. You’re close enough to walk to Tivoli Gardens, the city center, and some great local spots in Vesterbro, but you’re not dealing with the noise and chaos of being right in the thick of things. The staff seems to understand what travelers actually need, and the whole place has this relaxed, unpretentious vibe that feels very Danish. It’s the kind of place where you can settle in and feel like you’re staying somewhere real, not just passing through a generic hotel.
Hotels in Copenhagen weave minimalist lobbies, loaner bikes, and organic breakfasts steps from the canals.

Reviews of Copenhagen Island Hotel

All good ! I would recommend
Jo from United Kingdom – 15 April 2025 (9/10)
Room was lovely, very clean with enough space. Bathroom very spacious too. Bed was really comfortable.
Plenty of choice for breakfast.
Loved looking out over the water, this is why we chose the hotel, rather than others in the area, and other, more central, hotels. I was lovely looking out in the morning, and seeing all the bicycles on the Bike Snake.
What could be improved: Only a small thing, but for the environment, I didn't like the plastic wrappers on the tea bags in the room and breakfast.
It was a bit of a walk to the older part of town, but perfect for our use.Aristida from Lithuania – 4 April 2025 (9/10)
A little bit far from the centre.
Sarah from United Kingdom – 29 March 2025 (8/10)
Location, clean smart rooms, excellent breakfast.
Lengthy check in process due to irritating new on-screen process.
Beside reading lights flickering on both sides of bed.
Room cleaning only on request the night before.Theodore from United Kingdom – 24 March 2025 (9/10)
Everything was great. Great view and next to a mall where you can buy anything you might need
What could be improved: There’s nothing I didn’t like. Maybe slightly away from city centre, but next to a metro stopMadeleine from United Kingdom – 18 March 2025 (8/10)
Amazing views, great location, beautiful hotel.
What could be improved: Bed gave us both back pain. Wasn’t comfortable.Denise from United Kingdom – 18 March 2025 (9/10)
The room was lovely and clean, it overlooked the harbour. The breakfast was lovely, loads of choice.
What could be improved: nothing, it was all lovely.Egunsay from Italy – 17 March 2025 (9/10)
Breakfast was excellent
What could be improved: Hand soap in the bathroom was empty.Reka from Denmark – 17 February 2025 (9/10)
The breakfast was excellent, and the room was clean, bright, and comfortable. The hotel offers numerous facilities and services, and its location is ideal.
What could be improved: The only downside was the checkout experience. The receptionist, likely new, seemed undertrained. Instead of asking about our stay, he simply stated "all is good" and didn't even say goodbye. Given the hotel's high quality, the staff's professionalism should matchEsther from Germany – 27 January 2025 (8/10)
The hotel was very central and just walking distance to the central station. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We got the earlier than the check in time but, we got a room upgrade for €20 more and it was worth it. Breakfast was good. Overall we enjoyed our stay 😊
