Michael’s Overview

First Impressions

Walking into Michael’s feels more like stepping into a friend’s impeccably designed Copenhagen apartment than a typical four-star hotel. The ground-floor entrance on Kildevældsgade has this understated elegance that immediately tells you the owners actually care about details — you know, the kind of place where someone thought about every light fixture and door handle. There’s something refreshingly honest about how they’ve approached hospitality here, without any of that over-polished hotel lobby nonsense that makes you feel like you’re in a corporate waiting room.

The Østerbro Advantage

Honestly, the location in Østerbro is what really sets this place apart — and I mean that in the best possible way. You’re in one of Copenhagen’s most livable neighborhoods, where actual locals grab their morning coffee and do their weekend shopping. The area has this perfect balance of being residential enough to feel authentic but close enough to everything that matters. I’ve stayed in plenty of Copenhagen hotels, and most tourists end up in the obvious spots, but Østerbro gives you that insider’s view of how the city actually works. Plus, couples seem to absolutely love it here (the 9.7 location rating from recent guests isn’t just a number — it reflects something real).

The Rooms

The accommodations strike that sweet spot between Scandinavian minimalism and actual comfort — which, let me tell you, isn’t as easy to pull off as it sounds. Everything feels thoughtfully chosen rather than just ordered from some hotel supply catalog. The rooms have this clean, uncluttered aesthetic that actually helps you relax instead of making you feel like you’re living in a design magazine. What I really appreciated was how they managed to create spaces that feel both modern and warm — there’s natural light, quality linens, and those little touches that show someone was paying attention to how guests actually use a hotel room.

Getting Around

From Michael’s, you can easily walk to some of Copenhagen’s best kept secrets — the kind of cafes and shops that don’t make it into every guidebook but probably should. The neighborhood connects well to the rest of the city, but honestly, you might find yourself wanting to just explore Østerbro itself. There’s Fælledparken nearby if you want some green space, and the local restaurant scene is genuinely impressive. I mean, this is Copenhagen we’re talking about — even the neighborhood spots take food seriously.

Why Guests Love It

What really comes through in the guest feedback is how this place manages to feel both polished and personal. The 9.0 overall rating reflects something you can actually feel when you’re there — it’s the kind of hotel where the staff seems to genuinely want you to have a good time in their city, not just process you efficiently. Couples especially seem to connect with the intimate scale and the neighborhood setting. It’s refined without being stuffy, well-located without being touristy, and comfortable without being generic. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need from a Copenhagen stay.

  • Bradley from United Kingdom – 11 April 2025 (9/10)

Turned up early and was met with the keys without fuss or a wait. Very good stay.

  • Liz from Australia – 27 December 2024 (8/10)

Great location, lovely homely spot to land after a long flight, also great to be welcomed by Michael and not having to muck around with lockboxes etc.

    Lovely area with great cafes

What could be improved: Main bedroom was a little tight with 2 adults but okay for a short stay. 2nd bedroom very roomy for 2-3 adults

  • Jordan from Ireland – 28 November 2024 (9/10)

The host met us on arrival and allowed us an early check in, which was fabulous after an early morning flight. The facilities in the property were super and it was extremely well decorated.

What could be improved: Everything was great!

  • Jet from United States – 25 October 2024 (9/10)

The owner was very hospitable. Took his time to show us where the stuff was. The house was very clean and homey. The location is great. He answered all our questions how to get around Copenhagen and the best places to see.

What could be improved: Everything is perfect for us. Nothing that we didn’t like.

  • Brendan from Australia – 26 September 2024 (9/10)

Michael the host was extremely helpful and friendly.
We had to organise a taxi to the cruise terminal for 4 people with bags and he organised it all on the phone for us.
He made us feel very welcome
I would highly recommend this location for easy access to the cruise terminal and train station to the city.

  • Ala from Ireland – 7 August 2024 (9/10)

Location is absolutely fantastic, very safe, close to the train station. On arrival there was a big bowl of fruit on the kitchen table, was a very lovely welcome gesture. The whole place is lovely and cosy, absolutely adorable small garden outside, couldn't use it for long because of the rain

  • Angie from United States – 28 June 2024 (9/10)

    Great location wonderful host!

  • Sonja from United Kingdom – 26 June 2024 (9/10)

A really attractive, bright and airy apartment. Very close to transport for city centre, but in a quiet enclave.

What could be improved: Was all good, though second bedroom very small.

  • Sarah from Sweden – 8 June 2024 (8/10)

Great location, lovely host, nice living and eating area.

What could be improved: Second bedroom was small, some noise at night from adjacent properties.

  • Nicolaj from United States – 27 April 2024 (8/10)

Perfect size. Close to our local family and close to all major transportation, as well as shops and restaurants.

What could be improved: If I have to be picky, the frying pan didn't work on the induction stove top. Otherwise, all was great!
