Imperial Hotel Overview

First Impressions

Walking into the Imperial Hotel, you immediately sense you’re in a place that takes itself seriously — but in the best possible way. The four-star property sits right on Vester Farimagsgade, and honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering. There’s something reassuringly solid about the building that hints at Copenhagen’s rich history, though the interiors have been thoughtfully updated without losing that classic Danish charm. You know what strikes me most? It’s how the staff genuinely seems to care about getting the details right.

Location & Neighborhood

I mean, couples consistently rate this location a 9.1 for good reason — you’re basically in the heart of everything that matters in Copenhagen. Tivoli Gardens is practically next door, which means you can actually hear the gentle sounds of the amusement park on summer evenings (trust me, it’s charming, not annoying). The Central Station is a short walk away, making day trips to Malmö or other Danish cities incredibly easy. What I love is how you can stroll to Strøget, Copenhagen’s famous pedestrian shopping street, in about ten minutes, but the hotel itself sits on a quieter stretch that doesn’t feel touristy or overwhelming.

The Room Experience

The rooms feel properly Danish — clean lines, quality materials, and that understated elegance Scandinavians do so well. I wouldn’t call them spacious by American standards, but they’re thoughtfully designed with enough storage and workspace that you never feel cramped. The beds are genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms are modern without being sterile. Actually, the windows in most rooms offer nice views of the city, and if you’re lucky enough to get a room facing Tivoli, well — that’s just a bonus that makes evening wind-down time pretty special.

Breakfast & Dining

The breakfast setup here is honestly one of the better hotel spreads I’ve encountered in Copenhagen. They offer continental, American, and buffet options, which sounds corporate but actually translates to real variety that works for different travel styles. The Danish pastries are legitimately good (not just hotel-decent), and they stock proper coffee alongside the usual suspects. I appreciate that they include local specialties without making a big show of it — you’ll find quality Danish cheeses and cold cuts that give you a genuine taste of the country. The dining area gets busy around 8 AM, so if you prefer a quieter breakfast, aim for earlier or later.

Why Guests Love It

Recent guests consistently rate the Imperial Hotel’s location at 9.2, and after staying here, that number makes complete sense. It’s the kind of place that works whether you’re here for a romantic weekend (hence those high couple ratings) or a solo business trip. The staff strikes that perfect balance of being helpful without hovering, and the whole operation feels refreshingly unpretentious for such a well-positioned property. You’re paying for the location and reliability more than flashy amenities — and sometimes that’s exactly what you want in a city as walkable and engaging as Copenhagen.

Reviews of Imperial Hotel

  • Simon from United Kingdom – 15 March 2025 (8/10)

Location was perfect for the train station & city centre.
Staff were very helpful & thought nothing of looking after our luggage whilst we did some Copenhagen sightseeing.
Breakfast was very good with a wide choice available.

What could be improved: We were hoping to stay for a second night on our return journey, but on arrival were informed that they were shut due to overunning renovations so were transferred to another hotel.

  • Johan from Sweden – 20 February 2025 (8/10)

The room was very nice and both the locstion and the breakfast was excellent. Nice to have a super nice restaurant in the hotel

  • Steven from United Kingdom – 5 January 2025 (8/10)

Amazing breakfast, comfy beds, friendly staff.

What could be improved: The car park is at the Steel House hotel which is very weird. You exit via that hotel then have to walk across the street to get to Imperial Hotel. Not something I’ve ever seen before at any other hotel. Not ideal.

  • Liz from United Kingdom – 15 October 2024 (8/10)

Great breakfast buffet, comfy beds, bath in bathroom. Fab location close to train station and town hall but area not at all dodgy.

What could be improved: Had to pay a supplement for a child's cot 150DKK, and even then it was not set up on arrival

  • Sharon from United Kingdom – 14 October 2024 (8/10)

Location was central and easy to find from train station

What could be improved: The room was too hot despite turning down the thermostat to lowest and too noisy to open window

  • Martina from Ireland – 6 October 2024 (8/10)

    Location

    Friendly

    What could be improved: None

  • Greta from Iceland – 30 September 2024 (8/10)

    Close to everything

What could be improved: Very cold room 🥹

  • Eliza from China – 18 August 2024 (8/10)

In general it’s all ok especially there is a small business center which we can meet customers there, very convenient. Thanks also that they give us room in the morning, so we can refresh before going to meeting 😀

What could be improved: Room rate is very expensive and Breakfast is also very expensive 🙁

  • Bradley from United States – 18 August 2024 (6/10)

    Great location and good value

What could be improved: Dated and small room; crowded breakfast.

  • Malfe from Italy – 17 August 2024 (8/10)

Excellent location, nicely sized room and thankfully you could regulate the aircon

What could be improved: The double bed was in fact two single beds put together that VERY easily drifted apart creating an annoying hole. Not ok for this sort of price. The shower and bath were really tiny
